  • Prayer during the spiritual exercises

Prayer during the spiritual exercises, find a comfortable place. To live well a time of friendly relationship with God it is necessary to find an adequate place. It will allow us to experience adequate silence. We will also enjoy sufficient comfort not to get distracted due to various pains due to bad posture.

    Invocation to the Holy Spirit

Dialogue with God takes place in the Spirit who dwells within you and who connects the Father with the Son and all his children. This is why it is good to start with an invocation to the Holy Spirit who can open your heart to the depth of this relationship.

In fact, it will lead you to the awareness that prayer does not depend on your strength or ability, but on docility to the Spirit. You can memorize one of the many that have been written or you can make your own.

Read the Gospel passage or text you have decided to meditate on
After the invocation, open the Bible and read the passage relating to the catechesis heard. Do it slowly, enjoying every word. During this first reading, start marking the important passages that catch your attention.

    Ask for a particular grace

After a first reading, ask the Lord for a particular grace. It will be a natural consequence of something that hit you. Or it will be linked to some everyday event that is marking your life.

    Prayer of abandonment

Tell the Lord that despite what you want, you are willing to let him guide you in prayer so that he makes you understand what he wants.

    Meditation time

First, decide how much time you want to dedicate to meditation (25 to 45 minutes) and when the time runs out you will stop. During prayer, reflect on what strikes you, pay attention to the exposed nerves that are touched, and try to understand how this Word speaks to your life. As you pray, write down the thoughts and feelings that emerge in the prayer on a piece of paper.

    Thanksgiving prayer

Finish by making a prayer of thanks to the Lord for what he has given you. What happens during this time should never be accepted as something taken for granted, but as a precious gift to be treasured.

    Verification of prayer

Write down the most important thoughts that came up during the prayer and the related feelings that you saw rising in your heart. Do it according to the tripartite scheme, by the Holy Spirit, by yourself, and by the enemy of your joy.

  • An idol that returns in other guises

When it comes to idol there is always a word from the Old Testament that can be considered an excellent reference. It is present in the book of exodus in chapter 32 and tells us about the episode of the golden calf.

    What happens

This passage describes the condition of the people who await Moses on the slopes of Sinai. Days go by and they don’t see him coming back. The conditions are not favorable, their leader is missing, but above all, unlike Moses, they are unable to see God, to be in a relationship with him.

For this reason, they build a golden calf, a god to worship. It is not a random choice, the calf represents one of the main Egyptian deities. So they are really trying to be in a relationship with divinity.

    Idol what the problem is

The word idol in Greek comes from the verb orao, which means to see. The idol is therefore a replacement for the living and true God. A God that we build ourselves to heal that desire for life that pulsates within us. In fact, each of us has a wound of infinity that beats in our hearts. We are often not aware of this call.

And for this reason, we take for granted certain behaviors that instead are nothing more than compensation for something much more true and profound. For this reason, it is good that each of us takes a path of truth to understand if, at this moment of his life, he has put something in the place of God.

    Two different times

Probably each of us has encountered and faced the theme of idols. Going forward on the path of life it must be faced in a different way. At first, the idol was often something that took life away and had to do with obvious illusions (to have, to be able, to appear).

However, when someone begins to walk from good to better, the enemy attacks in this way by relying on different realities, and normally considered as good.

For example, the family, an illness that needs attention, work lived for the support of life and the family, a wife or a husband. All good things, but if they take the place of God they prevent him from being the source for our life.

    A suggestion

The step to take is to understand what we have made into an idol. Once we understand this, it is a question of going to verify what need is hidden behind that action that we have carried out in a more or less conscious way.

It can be a need for confirmation, a need for attention, fulfillment, listening, and many others. When we understand, it will be a question of understanding how God can heal that need, taking the place of the idol to whom we have delegated this responsibility.

  • A treasure hid in a field of darkness

A treasure hid in a field of darkness. In the Gospel of Matthew, in chapter 13, there are seven parables. Among them, there are two that speak of the discovery of something precious, a treasure and a pearl.

The text says this: the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, a man finds it and hides it. Then he goes, full of joy, sells all his belongings, and buys that field. The kingdom of heaven is also similar to a merchant who goes in search of precious pearls. Finding a pearl of great value, he goes, sells all his belongings, and buys it.

This text can be read on several levels. let’s try to look at some of them to understand how they can help us on our journey.

    The Kingdom is the pearl

The first level of reading leads us to understand that the Kingdom is something very precious. When someone discovers him in the field of the world, he decides to leave everything in order to enjoy the joy of possessing that treasure. The parable is very clear, the value of the Kingdom, of life in and with God, is inestimable.

Leaving everything is never a duty, but a question of love and attraction. I am able to leave something because I recognize that there is something more. I leave what I have in the knowledge that I am about to appropriate something that is better, that has a greater value.

And it is important that there is a deep and personal conviction, as probably the world, and many around us, will not recognize the same value and perhaps will not even be able to recognize the treasure.

The pearl and the treasure are like a fire, a deep desire, which is kindled in us. It devours us to the point of making everything else secondary, less important, less true.

So we understand the behavior of many characters of the Gospel, who after having met Jesus. They were able to make important choices, to leave home and family, to give part of their possessions, to put the Kingdom of God and his justice at the center.

You are the pearl and the treasure

The second level of reading is that in which we recognize ourselves as a precious treasure or pearl in God’s eyes. In his gaze, we recognize ourselves as creatures for whom God himself has chosen to leave everything, even his own life. To appropriate the lost pearl that we had become, to take with him the treasure that he had gone to bury in death.

It does us good to think about it under this gaze, especially in relation to our frailties, those that make us think that we are not worth enough, that we are not precious enough.

    Darkness with a hidden treasure

Finally, there is also another possible level of reading. After the resurrection, the whole world, including our inner world, was impregnated with light. This means that even our darkness is a field that contains a hidden treasure worth discovering.

The Kingdom, in the logic of Easter, is a lost pearl in our darkness waiting to be rediscovered. Pain, sin, are all fertilized by love. Blessed is he who manages to discover these springs and quench his thirst in them. After the resurrection, everything truly contributes to good for those who love God and who know how to recognize him even in darkness.

  • Sadness is a transitory emotion, with a variable duration

Sadness is an emotion that is triggered every time we find ourselves experiencing a loss. It is often accompanied by a sense of emptiness and melancholy. If at first glance, it can be considered an unpleasant emotion, sadness has its usefulness. It can help us say goodbye to what has been and prepare a new life strategy.

    What is sadness?

Sadness is an emotion, a state of mind, a feeling that is part of the life of each of us. Over the course of our lives, we have certainly tried it several times and through numerous vicissitudes – the end of a relationship, the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, or following unexpected and difficult to manage changes. We also become sad when we lose a precious and useful object, or when we see our earnings decrease.

Sadness, like anger and fear, is part of the group of primary emotions

Of those emotions that represent innate responses to stimuli and that we all express, even if in very primitive forms, from birth. It can be defined as a psychic state characterized by grief and low mood, attributable to a particular pain and sometimes a persistent sense of melancholy. Often in common parlance, there is a tendency to confuse sadness with depression or to mistake the term inappropriately. Instead, it is important and fundamental to distinguish.

Sadness is a transitory emotion, it can last for a few hours or a few days

It does not significantly affect our daily life, nor the way we interpret relationships with others. Depression, on the other hand, is a real psychic pathology that falls into the category of mood disorders. And it can be highly disabling, as it significantly affects daily activities, also negatively affects social and working relationships.

Depression also has a series of specific symptoms and tends to manifest itself with persistent sad mood, psychomotor slowdown, decreased interest or pleasure in activities.

How can we handle the sadness?

Sadness is an emotion that is triggered every time we find ourselves experiencing a loss. It makes us think about what we have lost and which no longer exists, or what we wanted and did not get. At that point, a sense of loneliness, melancholy, of inner emptiness creep into us. Undoubtedly unpleasant emotions, which at first glance we would like to drive away or ignore.

When we feel sad, in fact, we lose enthusiasm, the will to live and hope weakens. Yet sadness, like all other emotions, however unpleasant, has something to tell us. Not listening to it would be a mistake. Recognizing its value allows us to change attitudes and behaviors that are not useful to us.

We can manage sadness through reflection

When we think back to what happened, we can understand where we went wrong, and what we can learn from that situation. Understanding what happened allows us to say goodbye to what has been and prepare a new life strategy.

Here then is that sadness can become a very important instrument of inner transformation, not to be underestimated. It is simply about learning to live it fully without being overwhelmed.

While in many cases the reason for our sadness is clear to us, in others, it may not be. We feel sad without knowing why. To clarify, it might be useful to ask questions, so as to understand its origins. Sadness is often linked to our inner contradictions (for example between what we think and what we do). And it wants to signal us if we have been faithful to our desires, our dreams, or our relationships. The key question, in this case, might be – Was I true to my wishes?

    Sadness and planetary transits

Saturn, in the course of its transits, (especially the difficult ones), strongly influences our emotions. The planet reveals to us our conditioning, the fear of changing, of experimenting, makes us sad for the end of a story or a cycle of our life. Saturn promotes healthy cuts, so as to bring new life into our life.

The planetary transits of Saturn can make us grow or slide us into sadness, but also into depression. Due to its privative function, our needs or desires can be frustrated and find it difficult to fulfill. The purpose, however, is not to break us down, but to let us find our certainties within ourselves and not from what comes to us from the outside.

Feeling sadness during a transit of Saturn to the Sun, the Moon, or Venus is definitely understandable since in every change there is always a hidden side, something that goes away – the departure from a way of doing, of living, of loving.

Therefore, it is essential to always try to look at the other side of the coin in what happens to us. Sadness can be a stimulus, if deeply understood, to give oneself new life goals. We must learn to accept what we feel in relation to what is changing. Accept the cyclical nature of things.

Look at the bright side of the transformations. For each cycle that closes, a new one always opens. Welcoming sadness means opening the door to hope. Keep in mind that nothing is written and that the future is the result of our present. And the decisions we make day by day for ourselves and for our life.

  • If you love me don’t cry, St. Augustine’s poem

If you love me don’t cry!
If you knew the immense mystery of the sky where I now live,
if you could see and hear what I see and hear
    in these endless horizons,
and in this light that invests and penetrates everything,
you wouldn’t cry if you love me.

Here we are now absorbed by the enchantment of God,
by her expressions of infinite goodness, and by the reflections of his boundless beauty.
The things of the past are so small and fleeting
in comparison. I still have my affection for you:
a tenderness that I have never known.
I am happy to have met you over time,
even if everything was then so fleeting and limited.

Now the love that holds me deeply to you,
    is pure joy without sunset.
While I live in the serene and exhilarating expectation of your arrival among us,
    you think of me so!
    In your battles,
in your moments of despair and loneliness,
    think of this wonderful house,
where there is no death, where we will quench our thirst together,
in the most intense transport to the inexhaustible source of love and happiness.
Don’t cry anymore, if you really love me!

Saint Augustine does not ask those who remain on Earth to suffocate the pain but to transform it. He invites us to believe in life after death, to imagine a parallel world shaped by light and love. To try with the eyes of the soul to see this invisible world.

It is the very soul of those who left us to ask us not to cry. To show us the serenity of the place where he landed, to feel its peace, its quiet, its serenity. If it is really love that binds us to our deceased loved one, we must rejoice in his transformation.

  • The Sovereign archetype is always looking for the potential secret

The Sovereign, who is within us is always looking for the potential secret of the people around us to ensure that every talent can be used productively. He knows that the Kingdom cannot be fully productive if harmony does not reign and conflicts are not managed effectively.

The Sovereign materializes in the visible world what the Magician projects into the invisible world. To become Sovereign, one must take responsibility for one’s life. You must have set out on the Journey, defeated the Dragon, and found the Treasure.

The Kingdom to return to is our life, each one’s own, whatever it may be. The outside reflects the inside, the King and the Kingdom of him are one. If the Kingdom is arid and sterile it is because there is aridity and sterility in the Sovereign.

The Sovereign promote order, peace, prosperity and abundance

Royalty has prerogatives, but also duties and responsibilities. The life of the Sovereign is rich and privileged, but it also demands great moral rigor. The sovereign must be realistic, he must take appropriate initiatives to concrete situations, as required by the politics of power.

The price of responsibility and power is the renunciation of a part of freedom. The Sovereign must be willing to give up something of himself, many attractive opportunities, in favor of the good of the Kingdom. The Ruler also knows that for the highest level of performance no resources must be wasted, and for him, the saddest thing is to waste his life.

The Sovereign’s problem is that he often sticks to material things and schemes and he risks becoming an arid bureaucrat rather than an enlightened guide. He must learn to renew himself, to continually leave for the Journey and return with new energy and new enthusiasm.

Only in this way, through the constant sacrifice of himself, will the Kingdom be able to prosper for a long time. The enlightened Sovereign has well understood that the greatest paradox is that in order to live, we must die!

    Archetype Sovereign

    10th astrological house – Self-realization, Independence (Capricorn)

Absolutism, dictatorship, despotism, will, nepotism, aridity. Attachment to power, use of power for personal purposes, uncontrolled exploitation of resources

Purpose in life – To build a harmonious, just, prosperous, and happy kingdom.
Fear – Chaos, loss of control, external attacks, and internal divisions

    Relationship with a dragon problem
He uses it constructively and productively according to the Magician’s advice, integrates and exploits it.

Lesson to Learn – Take responsibility for your life, realize and express your deepest Self in the material world. Learning to give up a part of freedom in favor of responsibility, learning to delegate to others.

Topics to be explored – The management of human and economic resources, leadership, self-value. Material wealth, association, community, the tyrant, the enlightened ruler
